The Adventure

The Philanthrope and the Appraiser, the debut novel from Ms. Amelia Paramour, follows Audrey Coltrane, a dazzling, sharp-tongued, deeply principled protagonist. Audrey is equal parts heart and hurricane—a woman who’s reinvented herself more than once, never quite settling for the life that’s expected of her.

Ms. Coltrane became a successful freelance photographer turned philanthropist, who relocated from Philadelphia to Los Angeles to immerse herself in the creative energy of the College of Design. There, she encounters Julie Ricci, PhD, a passionate professor, and esteemed art appraiser. Their meeting ignites an immediate and undeniable attraction, setting the stage for a profound romantic connection amidst the corridors of academia and the high-stakes world of classic art.

Julie Ricci, PhD, is portrayed as a passionate professor and art appraiser who becomes romantically involved with the protagonist, Audrey Coltrane, amidst the vibrant setting of the Los Angeles art scene. Their relationship unfolds against a backdrop of intrigue involving a hidden art collection and the Irish mafia.

Julie Ricci is characterized by her intellectual depth and emotional resilience. Her relationship with Audrey Coltrane is central to the narrative, evolving from professional collaboration to a profound romantic and sexual connection. Together, they navigate the complexities of the art world and the challenges posed by external threats. Their partnership is marked by mutual respect, shared passion for art, and a deep emotional bond that strengthens as they face various obstacles.

The narrative takes a sharp turn with the sudden death of Audrey's father, Ricardo. His passing unveils a hidden collection of art from a world-renowned surrealist, which becomes the center of this enchanting adventure. Audrey and her illustrious mother, Charlemagne ‘Charlie’ Coltrane, determined to honor Ricardo's legacy, confront the mafia, who believe the stash of paintings reveals a map to a legendary treasure, making it even more special.

The Philanthrope and the Appraiser weaves ocean conservation into its romantic and suspenseful plot in a thoughtful way, grounding the glamorous art-world drama in a deeper sense of purpose.
